New Ways to Acquire Content on PRX

Once upon a time, only terrestrial, good ol' fashioned American radio stations could license pieces on PRX. But the times they are a-changing, and we at PRX are changing with them. Are you an internet station, looking for content to stream? A podcast, looking for material? A foreign broadcaster of some sort? A big fancy national show?

In addition to a growing catalog of thousands of high quality radio pieces PRX offers a big advantage in streamlining the licensing and payment process. Once you are set up with an account you can browse, audition, request, license and download pieces on the site directly (more on this below).

It makes sense for you to be able to license pieces from PRX, too. And now you can.

Getting Started

First you let us know you're interested by filling out this online form; where you tell us more about your show/organization, how you intend to use pieces from PRX, some estimate of how much work you anticipate licensing in the course of a year, what current payment rate structure you have (if any), and what rights and terms you require when using producers' work.

We will then follow up with you to clear up any questions and settle on rates and rights, and then complete an agreement to start your membership with PRX and create your account.

Fees

There is an annual $500 membership fee to have a distributor account on PRX (if you already have a paid Group account on PRX we can deduct the Group fee from the $500 distributor fee).

PRX pays all royalties directly to producers whose work you license, and then we invoice you on a quarterly basis for all payments made (PRX will add a 5% processing fee if invoices exceed $10,000 per membership year).

We encourage you to choose either a fixed per-minute or per-piece fee for licensing pieces on PRX. For example, a National Show might pay $200/minute, and a Podcast might pay $75/piece.

We do not offer variable pricing, but you can choose to negotiate pricing or terms on a case-by-case basis in which case you must handle payments directly with the producers.

Opt-in and Licensing Process

When you have been added to PRX as a distributor, PRX producers will be able to opt-in to your terms and make their work eligible for licensing by you on a piece-by-piece basis or for all of their work at once. When you find a piece that you'd like to use, click the "license/download" link on the piece's PRX page. If the producer has already opted in to your agreement, you can license and download the files immediately: if they haven't yet (and this may be more likely, especially if you've just set up the account) you'll have the option to send a license request. This will email the producer, letting them know that you're interested in their piece.
